Rehabilitation of Maya Bay, Thailand
Maya Bay, made famous by the movie ”The Beach” in Thailand has been closed to tourists since 2018. Before its closure, up to 5,000 people were visiting the bay every single day and had caused havoc to its corals, beach and marine animals. Since the closure, blacktip reef sharks are seen swimming in the area. Nature was able to recover and the authorities were able to rehabilitate the reef. While the bay is tentatively slated to reopen soon, preparations are being made for it to sustainably develop as tourism thrives.
