In Asia, COVID-19 has caused an eruption in single-use plastic consumption. Much of this plastic ends up in already polluted rivers. Scientists are dramatically accelerating their assessments of plastic pollution in waterways by using drones and other technology. Using traditional methods, these assessments would have taken up to ten years, but with technology, the time is cut down to under a year. Action can then be taken sooner.
