ASEAN nations including Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia rank among the top 10 ocean plastic pollutants. Several factors have contributed to this such as large coastal populations and sub optimal waste disposal systems. Interestingly, plastic consumption per capita in these countries is low. Hence, the need to manage waste responsibly is the challenge.
